Types of Riding

Mountain Biking Done primarily on dirt roads and single track, including downhill, cross country, freeriding, dirt jumping, street riding, and mountain cross. Thicker bike frames and knobby tires, usually have front suspension and can have rear suspension too. Organizatons to Contact:

Road Riding Riding on the road. Road bikes are lighter weight and skinnier.

Cyclocross Racing skinny road type bikes on dirt, grass and mud. Races are in the fall and include run-ups and barriers.

Track Riding Done on a Velodrome track with banked walls. Bikes look like road bikes but have no brakes or gears. Races are in the Summer when the track is dry.

BMX Done everywhere: BMX track, skate parks, dirt jumps, street, etc. Bikes are 20" or 24" frames.

Adaptive Cycling Adaptive cycling allows individuals to with handicaps to ride by using handcycles for individuals with no or limited leg movement, 3 & 4 wheel cycles for those who need more stability, children's hand and foot powered cycles, tandem cycles for individuals who wamt a guide while riding, hand and foot cranked cycles exercising your whole body, or standard cycles.
